About Us

History

In 1996, Senior Outreach Services was launched to fill a gap in the availability of outreach services to seniors and people with disabilities in Pierce County. On October 1, 2001 the organization broadened its services, becoming South Sound Outreach Services (SSOS). While maintaining our focus on serving seniors and people with disabilities, SSOS embraced a “no wrong door” approach to anyone seeking assistance.

Convenient Locations

We are continually adapting our program delivery to meet the needs we see in the community.

Transportation is a barrier for many of our clients. We know that when people can't get to services providers, they often miss out on programs and services that can help prevent a crisis.

Our outreach specialists visit 46 locations across the county-- including senior centers, food banks, meal sites, and community centers -- on a quarterly basis.

In addition, our innovative Connection Centers collaboration allows us to offer outreach services every week at FISH Food Bank locations throughout the county. Read more about how Connection Centers work.
